How to measure your ring size

Measure a similar ring

Measuring a ring which already fits well on the same finger is ideal. Place the ring over a ruler, and read the inner diameter - and take a couple of measurements if the ring has become more oval than circular.

If you only have a ring from a different finger, it’s still helpful to measure it. Be sure to take note of which finger it belongs on, then we can estimate the correct size for the correct finger.

Use a multisizer or sizing set

Sizing tools can be an affordable way to measure your ring size. Ideally, choose a sizer which roughly matches the width of the ring you’ll be wearing, as a wide ring tends to feel more snug.

Take note of the most comfortable size at different times of the day, then choose the most common.

Visit your local jeweller

The best way to measure your ring size is with the help of your local jeweller. You can even keep your ring size on file with Saint Teneu, ready for your partner when the time comes to design your ring in secret.

Why does my size seem to change?

It’s normal for your ring size to change throughout the day, and over the years. Many things can affect it, such as your body temperature, salt or alcohol intake, and recent exercise. Some people notice big changes during the day, while others notice very little - and the design of the ring matters too.

Choose a curved inner surface for your ring, rather than flat - this tends to feel more forgiving of size fluctuations. Consider adding gold sizing beads if you need to stabilise your ring while still fitting over the knuckle, or a silicone spiral to accommodate temporary changes in your size.

What if my ring needs to be resized?

Saint Teneu rings come with a complimentary size adjustment, so you can be sure of the perfect fit.

Resizing typically takes between 1-2 weeks, and an expedited service is available - please get in touch to make arrangements.

Note that resizing can affect the dimensions and fine details of your ring, such as engravings or textures.

What if I really can’t find out?

Don’t worry, it’s probably the trickiest question to answer when designing a custom ring! If measuring a ring or finger is not possible, some photos of the hand can be helpful in estimating the correct size.

Consider proposing with a placeholder ring then involving your partner in the design experience - this can be a great way to ensure that both the size and style of the ring are absolutely perfect.
